Israel launches new strikes at Iran and Lebanon, as US says it has hit 16 Iranian mine-laying ships
Israel has launched fresh strikes on Iran and Lebanon while the United States says it destroyed sixteen Iranian mine-laying ships, as Iran hit back at targets across the Gulf.

Israel has launched fresh strikes on Iran and Lebanon, widening a war that is now well into its second week.
The United States says its forces destroyed sixteen Iranian mine-laying ships, after Washington warned Tehran against laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran hit back, firing on Israel and American targets across the Gulf, from the Emirates to Bahrain, Kuwait and Iraq, while Qatar reported further missile interceptions.
Tehran is now threatening shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, the narrow passage that carries a fifth of the world's oil, raising fears of wider disruption to global energy supplies.
With both sides digging in and retaliation continuing, there is no sign yet that the fighting is close to stopping.
