Serbia's veteran ruler Vučić concedes election to student-led protest movement
Serbia's longtime leader Aleksandar Vučić has conceded defeat in a snap parliamentary election, with the student-led Student List projected to win up to one hundred and forty of the two hundred and fifty seats.

Serbia's longtime leader Aleksandar Vučić has conceded defeat after twelve years in power. In a snap parliamentary election, the student-led Student List is projected to take up to one hundred and forty seats, against one hundred and five for Vučić's party.
Turnout hit a record high. The movement began two years ago, after a station canopy collapsed in Novi Sad, killing sixteen people. Students called the collapse a sign of corruption, and kept marching.
On Sunday night, Belgrade erupted in celebration. Crowds danced and chanted victory, and one student said simply that Serbia is free.
A student revolt has now toppled a strongman, ending a political era that began more than a decade ago.
