Paris extends curfew as Marseille and Lyon ban protests after riots
Paris is extending its night curfew in two central districts until Monday, while Marseille and Lyon have banned all protests this weekend after last weekend's riots and looting.

Paris is extending a partial night curfew in the Place de la République and Les Halles districts until Monday, with movement prohibited in both areas from 23:00 local time until 06:00 the following morning.
Marseille and Lyon have imposed a total ban on protests this weekend. Elsewhere in France, only authorised union-organised demonstrations will be allowed on Saturday, and the Louvre, Orsay and Picasso museums in the capital will stay closed. Public transport in Marseille will also be suspended on Saturday.
The measures follow major disorder last weekend, when large protests against the high cost of living and school conditions were overshadowed by riots and looting that left businesses and historic buildings damaged. Lyon's tourism office was set on fire during the unrest.
France's justice minister said 217 people had been jailed after fast-track trials over last weekend's disorder, with 2,700 people arrested across the country and more than 1,000 appearing in court.
Police deployments are being increased by 20 percent compared with last weekend, and President Emmanuel Macron has said demonstrations by groups other than trade unions will be banned wherever possible, as France braces for another tense weekend.
